Safety Rules & Liability Waiver

Version 2026-10-v6 · Please read carefully before registering.

1. Student safety rules

Working with real tools is the heart of our program, and safety comes first. Every student must follow these rules:

  1. Listen to and follow your instructor at all times. Tools are used only when an instructor says it is time.
  2. Wear safety glasses (and hearing protection or a dust mask when instructed) whenever tools are in use.
  3. Closed-toe shoes are required. Tie back long hair and avoid loose sleeves, dangling jewelry and open-toe shoes.
  4. Walk in the shop. No running, horseplay or roughhousing.
  5. Use only the tool you were assigned, and only for its intended purpose. Never use a power tool without direct instructor supervision.
  6. Keep both hands, and your attention, on your work. Keep fingers clear of blades, bits and pinch points.
  7. Carry tools safely, point away from others, and return them to their place when finished.
  8. Tell an instructor right away about any injury, broken tool or unsafe situation, however small.
  9. Keep your work area clean and free of tripping hazards.
  10. No food or drinks at the workbench. Wash hands after class, especially after handling finishes or glue.
  11. Respect others. Students who repeatedly ignore safety rules may be removed from class or the program.

2. Nature of the program

Stanson Trade Academy LLC (“we”, “us”) provides hands-on shop classes in which students use hand tools and, with supervision, power tools and equipment. By registering, the parent or legal guardian (“you”) confirms the student is physically able to take part and has no condition that would make participation unsafe,

3. Assumption of risk

You understand that woodworking and shop activities carry inherent risks, including cuts, scrapes, splinters, bruises, eye injuries, hearing and respiratory irritation, strains, falls, and injuries from tools, equipment, materials and other participants. Serious injury, though uncommon, is possible. You knowingly accept these risks on your own behalf and on behalf of the student, and you have discussed the safety rules above with the student.

4. Release of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release and agree not to hold Stanson Trade Academy LLC, its owners, instructors, employees, volunteers and landlords liable for any injury, illness, loss or damage to the student or their property arising from participation in the program, including claims based on ordinary negligence. This release does not apply to gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

5. Indemnification

You agree to be responsible for, and to reimburse us for, claims, costs and damages caused by the student’s willful violation of the safety rules or willful damage to property, as permitted by law.

6. Medical treatment & emergencies

If the student is injured or becomes ill, we will provide basic first aid and try to reach you and your emergency contact immediately. If we cannot reach you and the situation is urgent, you authorize us to arrange emergency medical care, including transport, for the student. You are responsible for resulting medical costs. We do not collect or keep medical or allergy information about students and are not responsible for monitoring or accommodating allergies or medical conditions. You are responsible for deciding whether the student can safely take part.

7. Drop-off, pick-up & supervision

Students must be dropped off and picked up on time, and only by you or an adult you have authorized. We are not responsible for students before class begins or after it ends.

8. Behavior & removal

We may remove a student from a class or the program for unsafe or disruptive behavior. Refunds in that case are at our discretion.

9. Photos & media (optional)

We may take photos or video of classes and student projects to share on our website and social media. Consent is separate and optional on the registration form. Declining does not affect enrollment, and we will not publish a student’s full name without your permission.

10. Payment & refunds

Tuition covers the full month. All sales are final. Classes are non-refundable but may be rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice before the class start time. To reschedule, email info@stansontrade.com. See our Return Policy.

11. General terms

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Utah. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Your typed name on the registration form is your electronic signature and has the same effect as a handwritten signature. You confirm you are the student’s parent or legal guardian and have authority to sign.
